The Police have apparently made a big impact on French culture. The rock trio received an award yesterday (October 1st) for their contribution to the arts. The honor came after playing two sell-out concerts in Paris, which brought in about 80,000 fans. French Culture Minister Christine Albanel recognized the band for their "new sound," saying that France has "full admiration and recognition" for the band's music. Singer Sting said he was "very touched" because the band "deeply admires French culture."
Albanel also mentioned how the first guitarist in the Police's original 1977 was Henry Padovani of France. He left after Andy Summers joined later that year.
The Police will wrap up their European reunion tour this month before heading doing some more U.S. dates. Then the band is off to Australia, New Zealand and Asia next year.
