Patti Austin Planning Next CD

Patti AustinGrammy nominated Patti Austin has revealed that her next album will be a studio set of original contemporary material. The veteran performer will be teaming up with singer, songwriter and producer Gordon Chambers, who wrote Anita Baker's classic Grammy winner "I Apologize," among other hits.

Chambers, who released his second solo set independently this year, has also written and/or produced material for Paul Taylor, Chaka Khan, Will Downing, Freddy Jackson, Brownstone, Yolanda Adams, Queen Latifah, Usher and Beyonce.

The new set, due sometime in the second quarter of 2008, will be a break from Austin's series of recordings saluting the music and artists of the past. Her latest set, Avant-Gershwin, which was recorded live in Koln, Germany with the WDR Big Band, has earned her a jazz vocal Grammy in this year's race.

Austin has been performing since she was a child and has charted with pop and R&B tunes, while also carving out a niche in the jazz arena. The popular artist says she learned early to be realistic about her longevity in the music business: "When I was 5 years old, somebody told me, and I never forgot it and it's kind of a famous quotation: The history of your career in this business is gonna be: 'Who's Patti Austin?' 'Get me Patti Austin.' 'Get me a young Patti Austin.' 'Who's Patti Austin?' If you get to the 'get me a young Patti Austin' part of your career, which everybody comes to no matter who they are, even after a resurrection like Tina Turner."
