Singer John Legend performed a benefit concert on Christmas Day, December 25th, in his hometown of Springfield, Ohio. The Coming Home Christmas Benefit Concert was staged to help performing artists at local high schools. Also featured on the stage were R&B, gospel and rock artists, including choirs from Springfield North and Springfield South high schools. The concert was staged at North High.
"Springfield has a lot of talent," Legend told AP. "And the concert is a nice variety that represents the diversity of Springfield."
The concert was dreamed up by Legend's brother and fellow performer Vaughan Anthony Stephens. Proceeds go to the Jason Collier Memorial Scholarship Fund. Collier, an NBA player and Springfield Catholic Central alum, was 28 when he died from a sudden heart rhythm disturbance in 2005.
Legend wrapped up a national tour last month and plans to begin working on the follow-up to his multi-platinum set Once Again. He explained: "We're just, really just starting and so I really haven't had time to focus on it yet, but as soon as this little run is over I'm going to go back in the studio and spend the next few months on it. And I'm usually pretty prolific and pretty quick with my output. So I'm guessing I'll be done with it by the end of the spring and put it out late summer or early fall."
