Saxophonist Eric Marienthal is getting major airplay for his contemporary jazz single "Blue Water" from his current CD, Just Around The Corner. The single most recently climbed to Number Four on the national smooth jazz airplay chart.
The tune from his latest Peak Records album was co-written and produced by fellow smooth jazz artist Brian Culbertson.
Marienthal is adept at playing a number of different jazz styles and says that it's really not as difficult as one might think. He explained: "It's just like, you know, you're sitting and talking to somebody and one moment you're talking about your car, and the next moment you're talking about the weather, and the next moment your family or the beach or anything. And so playing different types of music is just like changing the conversation. You're still speaking, the notes don't change, but the way you're playing them is. But, you know, it's not such a drastic difference between one style and another. "
Marienthal just wrapped a weeklong engagement December 31st at the Blue Note in New York with the Chick Corea Elektric Band.
