50 Cent, Timbaland, Wyclef Jean, Mary J. Blige and Tyler Perry are some of the entertainers whose names have surfaced in association with an Albany, New York-based steroid investigation. The Times Union reports that the aforementioned entertainers were among several people who may have used or received prescribed shipments of steroids and injectable human growth hormone (HGH) in recent years.
According to the probe, the stars' prescriptions were written by Dr. Gary Brandwein, a South Florida osteopath. Brandwein has pleaded not guilty to several felony charges stemming from the investigation.
The human growth hormone or steroids were shipped under fake names to hotels, production studios, private residences, and an upscale Manhattan fitness club through the Long Island office of Michael Diamond, an anti-aging consultant.
Karynne Tencer, a spokesperson for Blige, said in a released statement, "Mary J. Blige has never taken any performance-enhancing illegal steroids."
According to authorities, the stars have not violated any laws and aren't currently subject to any criminal prosecutions. The investigation is focused on anti-aging clinics, doctors and pharmacists who prescribed the drugs.
